Arrest History in Dallas County
Dallas County arrest records can begin with the Sheriff's Office, a city police department, the Iowa State Patrol, DCI, or another state or campus agency. The county reports twelve law-enforcement agencies working through three dispatch centers. Dallas dispatch, Polk dispatch, and Westcom do not share one public records counter. The incident location and Booking Origin field are therefore central clues. A Waukee report belongs with Waukee Police, while a sheriff report belongs with Dallas County. Dispatch can route a call but does not become the custodian of every agency's report.

Dallas County Daily Arrest Reports
The Dallas County Sheriff's Daily News Report is the strongest official lead for a recent sheriff incident or arrest. The archive is organized by date. Entries can show the start date and time, incident number, event type, location, and unit or code. That helps a reader identify the event and prepare a precise records request. It is not a list of convictions, and it is not designed to replace the booking roster or Iowa Courts Online.
The official Daily News Report archive provides the dated discovery path.
Use the report's date and incident number when asking the Dallas County Sheriff's Office for the narrative. A missing entry does not prove no arrest occurred because city and state agencies keep their own source reports.
How to Look Up Dallas County Arrests
A complete Dallas County arrest lookup follows the record from its first public lead to the final court result. Online sources are useful, but agency phone, counter, written, fax, and Chapter 22 request channels remain necessary when an event is missing or a narrative is needed.
- Check the Dallas County Daily News Report by date, then search the New World Inmate Inquiry by name, booking number, subject number, or booking-date range. Set In Custody when only present confinement is relevant.
- Open the booking entry and record the Booking Origin or Arresting Agency, booking number, charge number, and court docket number. These fields identify the correct custodian and help separate people with similar names.

- Search Iowa Courts Online for Dallas County filed charges and disposition. If statewide fingerprint-supported history is needed, order the $15-per-last-name Iowa DCI check by an accepted online, mail, fax, email, or walk-in route. DCI does not take telephone requests.
- Use Iowa VINE for custody and status notifications, and use Iowa DOC Offender Search when a person has moved into prison, probation, parole, work release, or another state corrections status.

Dallas County Booking Search Controls
The official New World Inmate Inquiry covers current and historical Dallas County bookings. That history makes the In Custody control important. A name hit alone does not show that a person is still confined. Searchers can also use Subject Number, Booking Number, Booking From Date, Booking To Date, and a Housing Facility control. Results show Photo, Name, In Custody, Race, Gender, Height, Weight, and Multiple Bookings, with observed pages holding up to 100 results.

The linked tools answer separate questions. The roster shows a booking and custody state, the Daily News Report points to sheriff activity, and VINE supports notifications. None supplies the final court disposition by itself.
What an Arrest Record Shows
A Dallas County booking profile is a jail-intake record. It can connect a person to one or more admission events and show how the jail recorded the initial charge, bond, agency, court date, and release. It is useful for tracing an arrest into a court file, but each field reflects information known at that stage. The prosecutor's filed charge and the judge's outcome can be different.

Profiles may also show race, gender, height, weight, partial address geography, court dates, charge numbers, and bond details. The public structure inspected did not show date of birth, age, eye or hair color, warrant number, magistrate, cell or pod, or release reason. Do not assume an absent field is available through the public interface.
Route Dallas County Arrest Reports
Booking Origin is often the fastest route through Dallas County's split dispatch geography. It identifies who created the narrative, which is the document most likely to describe the alleged conduct, scene, officers, and investigative steps. Send the request to that agency, not automatically to the jail or sheriff.

For Grimes or Granger, identify the agency first because Polk dispatch may be involved. Event date, location, incident number, subject, and desired format help any records officer locate the correct Dallas County arrest material.

Recent Dallas County arrest research works best as a sequence. Start with the date-based Daily News Report for sheriff activity. Search the roster next by name or booking-date range. Open the profile to capture Booking Origin and any docket number, then ask the named agency for the incident or arrest report. Finally, use Iowa Courts Online to see whether the Dallas County Attorney filed a charge and how the court resolved it.
The roster includes historical bookings as well as people now held. A released entry may remain searchable, and a current-custody search can omit an older booking when the toggle is set. Likewise, absence from the sheriff report may mean a city or state agency created the record. The public jail disclaimer says arrest is not an indication of guilt and directs users to verify with the arresting agency or Iowa Courts Online. Dallas County does not warrant that the jail data supplies the final case outcome.
Dallas County Booking Sequence
Dallas County publishes a clear intake sequence: arrest and transport, property intake, medical screening, fingerprinting, photographing, and a warrants check. For a new charge, the person sees a magistrate within 24 hours. The magistrate advises the person of the charges and sets bond when appropriate. Release can follow a magistrate-set bond, Fifth District pretrial release or recognizance, final court action, or another court order.

Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest record and a conviction record are made by different custodians at different points. The arresting agency and Dallas County jail record the allegation and custody event. The Iowa District Court records the filed charge, plea, rulings, and disposition. DCI later pairs fingerprint-supported arrest cycles with reported outcomes under Iowa Code chapter 692. Delays or gaps can leave one source ahead of another.

Dallas County Custody After Booking
A Dallas County roster entry may stop being the best locator when custody or supervision moves to the state system. Iowa DOC Offender Search covers prison, probation, parole, work release, and community programs. It can be searched by name, birth date or approximate date range, sex, offender number, location, or county of commitment. Court charge details still belong in Iowa Courts Online.

VINE can track custody movement and status, but it is not the incident report, booking profile, or court judgment. A reader should keep the Dallas County booking number and court docket number so each later source can be matched to the correct event.
Request Missing Dallas County Arrests
When a sheriff arrest is absent from the online sources, use the Dallas County Open Records Request channel. The law-enforcement form is encouraged but not mandatory. Requests may be online, in person, in writing, or by telephone. Describe the event, approximate date and time, location, agency, report or case number when known, and desired delivery format. The county's response goal is within ten business days.
Dallas County may charge reasonable retrieval time after thirty minutes and copying costs no greater than the cost of the service. Staff should communicate needed expenses. Iowa law permits up to twenty calendar days while the county decides whether a confidential record can be released. Active investigative material, juvenile information, victim-sensitive details, and other confidential content may be withheld or redacted. A denial should state its legal basis.
Chapter 22 route: Ask the agency that created the arrest report. The Dallas County Sheriff's Office cannot release a municipal police narrative it does not hold.
